Sustainability at ARGUS

We are convinced of the versatile plastic products and their indispensable added value in a wide variety of applications in our daily lives. When using these high-quality materials, the focus must naturally be on conscious and sustainable handling throughout the entire life cycle. In addition, as a plastics processing company, we are aware of the special social responsibilities that arise from our actions and our products. Since the company was founded in 1994, the three pillars of sustainability - ecology, economy and social issues - have been firmly established in our corporate philosophy and are practiced on a daily basis.

The protection of our environment, the responsible use of resources and trusting cooperation form the basis for our current and future success as a family business.

renewable energy sources -
100 % green electricity

Since 01.01.2022, the entire production site of ARGUS Additive Plastics GmbH in Büren has been supplied with 100 % green electricity. The change to a sustainable energy supply is a commitment
to more climate protection and sustainability.

In terms of total energy requirements for electricity, heating, cooling and the internal transport systems (Scope 1 and 2), the use of green electricity will reduce CO2 emissions by 88 percent compared to 2021. Based on current production volumes, this corresponds to an annual saving of an estimated 3,300 metric tons of CO2.

Increasing energy efficiency

Despite the use of regenerative power sources, one of our central principles remains to sustainably reduce energy consumption in all areas. Among other things, this is realized through the use of energy-efficient process and cooling technology, heat recovery systems, and the use of dynamically controlled LED lighting systems.

In this way, we also contribute to reducing the overall energy demand in Germany.

Regional species protection

We are committed to regional species protection. In 2022, a meadow orchard with 22 fruit trees and a total area of almost 4,000 m2 was realized on our company premises. Orchard meadows are among the most species-rich biotopes in Central Europe.

In our case, this biotope is extended by a natural lake with an area of 500 m2, an attached facade greening on a length of more than 100 m and several flower meadows with approx. 1,600 m2. This provides an ideal living space for insects and native bird species in particular. The twelve bee colonies, which are provided with a safe home on our premises in cooperation with a regional beekeeper, also feel at home in this.

CO2-site balance

In order to identify further potential, a complete CO2 site balance (corporate carbon footprint) has already been drawn up for Scope 1 and 2. In addition, we are currently in the process of determining and taking into account Scope 3 emissions. Based on the data collected, further measures to reduce CO2 emissions are being planned and implemented on an ongoing basis.

In our climate protection strategy we have set ourselves two central targets. By the end of 2030, we want to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality (net zero) for Scope 1 and 2. This will save us almost 3,700 metric tons of CO2 equivalents per year compared with 2021. Our long-term goal is to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality (net zero) in all three scopes by the end of 2045.

Initiative "Zero Granule Loss"

We have joined the "Zero Granule Loss" initiative of our industry federation IK. The aim of this initiative is to prevent plastic granules from entering the environment or the sewage system and subsequently collecting in the oceans or on the coasts. This has already been implemented for many years through special technical solutions and the sensitization of our employees.
